To help tires last longer pewag austria GmbH has, throughout the calendar year 2008, launched its new PREMIUM product line with the TYCOON link series in 14, 16, 18 and 23 mm, which include the latest developments in tire protection chain technology.

The PREMIUM SERIES includes the new TYCOON link generation, which is the world’s strongest tire protection chain, developed for the latest generation of giant wheel loaders operating in the toughest and most abrasive conditions in open-pit and underground mining, quarrying, tunneling, scrap and hot slag digging applications.

The benefits of this innovative new link design include maximum lifetime, reduced maintenance, stronger reinforced ring system, largest wear volume per m2, highest breaking resistance, a heavy duty tension chain system, the densest mesh and a reduced number of mechanical joints.

By using TYCOON tire protection chains the user benefits from higher productivity of the chained unit due to increased output, improved traction and stability, reduced downtimes and maintenance. Together with maximum chain life this all provides the lowest possible operating cost per hour/ton.

The strongest chain, type TYCOON 23, became a best seller and the highlight to date was the chaining of two LeTourneau 2350s with tires of dimension 70/70-57, the world’s largest wheel loader, in the US and Australia.

The TYCOON chains of diameter 18, 16 and 14 are - also available with reinforced rings 18/20S,16/18S and 14/16 for longer hauling distances - repeating the excellent results of the 23 mm chains in toughest underground, hard rock, tunneling, scrap and slag operations.

In underground mining operations, even with extremely long hauling distances, the Tycoon series achieved excellent service life results providing excellent cost efficiency for chains installed on the most heavily loaded LHD units.

We would like to highlight the results of a field test at one of our most valued users, a copper mine in South America:

Scoop Wagner ST1810, tires 29.5-29 of high value and difficult to source, average service life of an unprotected tire 800 hours. We started with a test back in 2005 and achieved 6000 hours chain and protected tire life. With the new TYCOON 16/18S chain solution we are expecting 8000 h service life for both. The significant savings achieved can be easily calculated.

In the toughest scrap and hot slag operations, even with foam filled tires and running on concrete, the TYCOON series proved to be the chain solution providing the highest performance and reliability available. The same situation also applies on the hardest rock type applications.

Users from around the world in the most diverse applications are reporting the incredibly low maintenance requirement of these new TYCOON chains, which need hardly any spare parts throughout their whole lifetime, another important saving.
